Creamfields South: Incredible photos show how good it is to have a throwback festival at Chelmsford’s Hylands Park

Hylands Park in Chelmsford has had a tough few years in terms of the festivals it hosts. In 2017 and after 22 years, the V Festival, which was held annually at the site, was abandoned, leaving thousands of heartbroken fans.

There was good news soon after as a replacement festival, known as RiZe, took over in 2018. But tragedy soon struck again when it failed to attract enough audience and was also dropped in 2019.

It emerged at the time that Chelmsford City Council lost around £500,000 in expected revenue when RiZE organizers Festival Republic decided against holding an event in 2019. With the addition of the pandemic of Covid-19, the city has desperately needed some sort of big event ever since.

There was hope in 2021 when it was then announced that Creamfields, who regularly host a major electronic music festival in Liverpool, would create a similar event right here in Chelmsford at Hylands Park. Big names have been announced for the event including Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Fatboy Slim, Idris Elba, and more. It was named, South Creamfields.

This weekend has finally arrived and takes place between Thursday, June 2 and Sunday, June 5. Thousands of festival-goers descended on the site to enjoy the incredible music as well as the Jubilee Bank Holiday long weekend.

The atmosphere around the festival was simply phenomenal, with the weather also managing to hold up. The photos taken from the festival so far show how badly we needed another large-scale festival in the city.

Take a look at the photos below from Friday June 3 to see how much people are enjoying Creamfields South so far. Have you been to the festival at all this weekend? Let us know in the comments below!
