First-ever Camp Bestival Shropshire draws rave reviews from parents and children
THE first “Northern” Bestival Camp received a big boost from parents – and, just as importantly, from their children.
The family festival – a new sister event to the award-winning Dorset-based festival – was held last weekend at Weston Park, the former home of the V Festival on the Shropshire/Staffs borders.
Around 18,000 revelers saw performances by DJ Fatboy Slim, “Human” singer Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and The Voice star Becky Hill.
Also on the bill is Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox, covering 80s mega hits and even renewing her wedding vows.
Children’s entertainment on the main stage included Mr Tumble, Mister Maker, Horrible Histories and Brainiac Live.
There was plenty for toddlers to do away from the arena, including plenty of circus activities and shows, science shows, white water swimming, tree climbing and rides classic fairgrounds.
Accommodation options included standard camping, boutique tents, RV sites, and even backstage camping, with quick and easy access to the main stage.
“Josie and I are delighted with the support we have received for our first ever Camp Bestival Shropshire,” said co-founder Rob da Bank, who is co-promoting the events with his wife.
“It was such a joy to watch families camping together and experience all that we packed into our magical trunk of delights in such a beautiful setting.”
The festival has received a lot of positive feedback on social media.
“It was amazing,” said Twitter user Jon Hilton.
“Great line-up, seemingly endless things to do away from the main stage, and we found our six-year-old loves to rave.”
“Great for big kids and little kids. We had a great time.”
Jennifer Platt said a Mercury Prize-nominated late-night set from Self Esteem was “a life-changing moment” for her 12 year old daughter. “She is amazed.”
Camp Bestival Shropshire is set to return in 2023, with Super Early Bird tickets going on sale at 10am on Friday August 26.
Details of the Shropshire and Dorset events are available at the official website.
